(New York, NY) — Harvey Weinstein is asking a New York state appeals court to toss his sexual-assault conviction. The former Hollywood producer is serving a 23-year prison sentence on charges of sexual assault and third-degree rape. He is looking for a new trial, with his lawyers claiming his conviction was based on the ride of the #MeToo movement against sexual violence and not specific crimes. Three of the five justices expressed serious concerns that Justice James Burke made a mistake allowing prejudicial evidence at his trial, saying it could bring into question Weinstein’s character. Weinstein is currently awaiting trial on eleven other charges, with the trials not expected to happen before next summer.
(Undated) — Britney Spears’ lawyer is slamming her father for allowing her to participate in a 2003 Diane Sawyer interview that made her cry. After a lengthy Instagram post from the singer questioned why her team and her father forced her to do the interview, Jamie’s lawyer issued a statement to Variety denying any involvement. However, Britney’s lawyer issued a statement to Variety asking Jamie to not bully and attack his daughter. Rather, attorney Matthew Rosengart said he should answer fundamental questions, such as if he will return millions in dollars he paid himself with Britney’s money when he was in charge of the conservatorship.
(New York, NY) — Actor Keanu Reeves is insisting he wasn’t feeling down in the iconic ‘Sad Keanu’ meme. The photo of Reeves sitting on a bench looking sad first went viral in 2010. The ‘Matrix Resurrections’ star cleared the air on Monday’s episode of ‘The Late Show’ when host Stephen Colbert compared the meme to an illustration in the actor’s comic book series. Reeves stated he was ‘hungry’ when the photo was taken. The ‘John Wick’ star went on to say he had no idea why he was so ‘meme-able.’
(Undated) — Matthew McConaughey is opening up about his decision not to run for Texas governor. On the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, McConaughey said it was a “two-year consideration that I came to the decision, really, over the last couple of months.” He said he kept asking himself how he could be the most useful to himself, his family, and to the most amount of people. He said right now, he’s focused on his family and continuing to tell stories.
(Undated) — “19 Kids and Counting” alum Jim Bob Duggar will not be an Arkansas state senator anytime soon. He lost in a landslide in the Republican primary, taking home about 15-percent of the vote. This comes shortly after his eldest son was convicted on child pornography charges.
(Undated) — A “90 Day Fiancé” alum Jason Hitch is dead. Jason’s sister, Shannon, told TMZ he died in Florida hospital after complications from COVID-19. He was on season two of the show in 2014. Hitch married Cássia Tavares and the two got divorced in 2018.
(Undated) — It looks like Bruce Springsteen is selling his music catalog in what could be the largest catalog deal for a single musician to date. Billboard reports The Boss sold his entire recorded music and publishing catalog to Sony Music for about 500-million dollars. His catalog includes over 300 songs, 20 studio albums and much more. This beats out Bob Dylan’s sale to Universal for almost 400-million.
