The local fitness community is lending a helping hand to local families this holiday season.
Anytime Fitness Fort Saskatchewan is partnering with BGC Fort Saskatchewan, formerly known as the Boys and Girls Club of Fort Saskatchewan, to provide Christmas presents to children in need.
“The holiday season is upon us and we are reaching out to our AF family to help make some less fortunate children’s Christmas a little bit brighter,” local Anytime Fitness manager, Jessica Johnson, wrote on Facebook.
The local gym decorated their Christmas tree with tags, each marked with the age and gender of a child in need of a gift. Both members and non-members of the gym are invited to select a tag, purchase a gift for the child, and bring it back to the gym for delivery to BGC Fort Saskatchewan.
“Anytime Fitness Fort Sask has teamed up with the Boys and Girls club to help make this happen. We are asking members to take a tag from the tree in the lobby. Purchase a gift, bring it back unwrapped with tag on by the 22nd of December. We have 97 tags. That’s 97 kids that the AF family and AF team can make smile Christmas Day! Let’s make this happen,” she continued.
The gifts collected will be distributed to local children ranging in age from 5-years-old to 18.
Johnson will be collecting gifts at the local Anytime Fitness until 3pm on Wednesday, Dec. 22. The gifts will be delivered to BGC Fort Saskatchewan by Dec. 23, to ensure they reach local families by Christmas morning.
“I took part in this program when I was a manager at Snap Fitness, where we would collect tags from the Boys and Girls Club, ask members to take a tag from our tree, and come back with an unwrapped gift with the tag so we can deliver them to the kids,” Johnson explained.
Johnson said that the fundraiser has a long way to go, as they started with 97 tags. “We have many tags left, between 60 and 70, so we have a ways to go,” she said.
Due to the several closures the fitness industry experienced last year as a result of coronavirus restrictions, the local gym was unable to participate last year. “This will be the first year we do the fundraiser at Anytime Fitness,” Johnson said.
Those interested in donating a gift through the tag program can drop by the Anytime Fitness branch in Fort Saskatchewan, located at 23 Westpark Blvd.
