The New York Giants and Kenny Golladay signed a 4 year $72 million dollar deal last year and things have gone awful for him as a Giant.
Since Day 1 things have been rocky for the New York Giants and Kenny Golladay.
With one game left in his first season with the Giants, Golladay has zero touchdowns, and only 34 catches for 499 yards.
Even Golladay is disappointed with his performance this season.
“Just not good enough on my part,” Golladay said following Friday’s practice. “I wasn’t playing terrible or anything, but just not good enough.”
Golladay also missed three games with injury and left another early. Golladay was injured early in minicamp and despite bonding with Daniel Jones off the field they didn’t get much work together on the field and it showed.
The New York Giants’ former offensive coordinator Jason Garrett struggled to scheme the team’s top target into the game plan. Garrett was let go but since then Jones has been injured and again the two have not been able to work together.
Assuming the New York Giants have both Golladay and Jones next year one positive is they will have plenty of time to get on the same page. Jones is a strong deep-ball thrower and Golladay is great at catching contested passes.
The hope is after a full offseason together and a full preseason together the connection will be better. Jones and Golladay did have a big game together against the talented Saints defense. Golladay had 6 catches on 7 targets for 116 yards in the teams most impressive win this season. Should the NY Giants move away from Jones for a Russell Wilson that would surely benefit Golladay?
Another way the NY Giants can get more out of Kenny Golladay is finding a play caller that better suits his game. This can also help Jones.
The relationship between the former offensive coordinator and Golladay was clearly a problem. It didn’t work from the beginning. The whole offense didn’t work with Garrett and the NY Giants were one of the worst units in football. The offensive was outdated, broken and straight-up boring, and uncreative.
Another way the NY Giants can get more out of Golladay in Year 2 is by getting more out of the offense in general.
The NY Giants need to fix the offensive line. They need 3-4 new starters in the unit as a whole. If the offensive line finally clicks the hope is the passing attack and the rushing attack will click as well. The offensive had so many holes and so many obstacles over the last few years.
So many things can be different for the NY Giants next season.
A new coordinator is all but guaranteed.
A new head coach and quarterback is also a possibility.
Golladay can possibly be in a different uniform in 2022. The most likely scenario for the NY Giants is that Jones and Golladay are back and the hope is they can improve on a really bad first year together.
