Celebrated impressionists brothers Anthony and Eddie Edwards, who star as the Edwards Twins, will bring their unique production as master vocalists and make-up illusionists to the Mizner Park Cultural Center stage in Boca Raton on Thursday, Feb. 3 and Friday, Feb. 4. Both performances take place at 7:30 p.m. Prior to their performances, Anthony Edwards spoke with the Jewish Journal’s Linda Chase.
Imagine being entertained by Sonny & Cher, Billy Joel, Elton John, Neil Diamond, Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Lady Gaga, Celine Dion, Rod Stewart, Bette Midler, Barbra Streisand, Andrea Bocelli, and Tom Jones, just to name a few, all performing on one stage on one night. Talented celebrity impersonators Anthony and Eddie Edwards, billed as “2 brothers-100 stars,” through the magic of make-up and wardrobe, recreate all of these iconic performers right before your eyes.
(Linda) How long have you been performing together?
Anthony: Thirty years, and now we are doing 200 shows a year.
(Linda) Whose idea was it to team up?
Anthony: Carol Burnett. She saw me in Toronto when I was doing a show and we became fast friends. She then saw Eddie in LA at a show we were doing and asked him to be on her comedy series “CAROL & COMPANY.” It was there at CBS that she told Eddie we need to combine forces and form “THE EDWARDS TWINS 2 BROTHERS/100 STARS.”
(Linda) Were you interested in show business from an early age?
Anthony: Yes, our Uncle jack worked for producer George Slaughter and worked on the Sonny & Cher show. We would hang out with him at all the studios and became fast friends with all the stars.
(Linda) What other productions and shows did you perform in prior to your success together?
Anthony: We both did musicals and many TV shows and movies. We worked with Clint Eastwood, Anthony Edwards (ER) and others.
Linda: Do you still perform separately?
Anthony: Yes, Eddie just did “The Kominsky Method” with Michael Doulgas and opened for Cher in Las Vegas.
Linda: Have you performed globally and where?
Anthony: China, Singapore, Canada, Japan and many other places.
Linda: I understand you impersonate 100 different celebrities. Do you have any favorites?
Anthony: For Eddie, it is Barbra Streisand, and for me, It’s Andrea Bocelli. Both of them have seen us and loves how we portray them.
Linda: How long does it take to master their likeness?
Anthony: For each character, about one year learning the voice and make-up and composing the musical trax.
Linda: How long does it take to apply your makeup?
Anthony: About 3 1/2 hours per show.
Anthony, I really enjoyed speaking with you and look forward to seeing your performance.
