A New York City man was jailed after police say he burglarized a T-Mobile store last year in Bethlehem Township and made off with $10,000 worth of merchandise.
Marsid Sela, 32, of the Bronx, is charged with burglary, theft, receiving stolen property, criminal mischief, all felonies; and possessing an instrument of crime, a misdemeanor, in the incident last June 21.
Bethlehem Township police at 11:45 p.m. were called to T-Mobile, 4402 Birkland Place, at Southmont Plaza for an alarm. Investigators found the front entrance to the store smashed and multiple items stolen, police said.
Surveillance video footage showed a man, later identified as Sela, gain entry by smashing the front, glass doorway with a tool and stealing merchandise before fleeing in a dark sedan, according to police.
Investigators were familiar with Sela: He had a past criminal history of committing similar crimes at other cellphone stores across New Jersey, New York and Connecticut, police said.
Detectives in those separate incidents connected Sela to the Bethlehem Township incident, court records state. At the time of the Bethlehem Township incident, township police Sgt. Shaun Powell said Sela was out of prison on unsecured bail for separate charges in similar New Jersey crimes. Sela is facing charges by New Jersey police departments in Springfield, Fort Lee, Hackensack, Rochelle Park, Linden, Midland Park, Paramus, Edgewater and Westfield; as well as West Chester, Ramapo, Bay Side and Scarsdale, New York; and Orange and Stamford in Connecticut.
Sela was arraigned Thursday before District Judge Richard Yetter III, who set bail at $100,000. In lieu of bail, Sela was taken to Northampton County Prison. He is due back in court for a preliminary hearing tentatively scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Feb. 1, to determine if there is sufficient evidence to send the charges toward trial in county court.
