The walls of buildings in Dublin’s historic district can’t speak, but the discreet new signs placed nearby do the talking for several of them.
The Historic Dublin Business Time Trek, established by the Historic Dublin Business Association, features 19 locations with small green signs near their entrances.
The signs briefly explain the historical significance and have a QR code that links to a website that tells more about the building’s history and how it transitioned to its current use.
“The goal with the Historic Dublin Business Time Trek is to educate, entertain and inspire residents and visitors about the rich history in historic Dublin and provide another layer of fun while supporting historic Dublin businesses,” said Sharon Adamek, event and marketing coordinator for the Historic Dublin Business Association.
The Time Trek concept was developed by Brad and Halli Webb, a husband and wife who own Honest Advertising, 39 W. Bridge St.
The Historic Dublin Business Association had asked Honest Advertising to create a series of advertisements beginning in May 2021 that explained the history of some of the buildings in the historic district, Brad Webb said.
“We think people liked the tone and the humor of the ads,” Halli Webb said.
Based on that, “we wanted to extend the idea of the ads and continue to share the history in some physical form,” said Brad Webb, who advanced the idea of the signs with the QR codes.
Fastsigns of Dublin made the signs that appear in front of the 19 businesses, which include Tucci’s, North High Brewing Co., Boho 72 Boutique, Dublin Barber Shoppe and the Dublin Village Tavern.
The Historic Dublin Business Association and Trusty & Company, a Dublin-based marketing and design firm, developed the website to which the QR codes link, Adamek said.
Rick Gerber, a former Dublin City Council member and president of the Historic Dublin Business Association, said the organization was excited to launch the program “sooner than later” instead of waiting for warmer weather.
“We hope to expand it in the district later this year,” Gerber said.
