Penske Logistics filed this letter with the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity to warn of plant closing in Flint.
Penske Logistics is closing a facility on Bristol Road in the Flint area, which will result in about 146 job cuts.
FLINT, Mich. (WJRT) – A Penske Logistics terminal near Bishop International Airport is closing in March, which will mean the loss of 146 jobs.
The company filed a letter dated Jan. 21 with the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity warning of the facility closure and job cuts effective on March 26.
The jobs being eliminated include 141 drivers, three operations supervisors, an operations manager and a safety lead. The drivers are represented by Teamsters Local 332 in Flint.
The Penske facility is located at 5120 W. Bristol Road, which is less than a mile from the airport. The company said the closure is due to a variety of factors beyond their control.
“Although this was a very difficult decision, given the dynamic customer service needs at this terminal, at a time when continuing to reliably meet those needs has been regularly compromised by challenges largely beyond Penske’s control, sustaining an effective and efficient ongoing logistics operation presents continued operating conditions at this terminal that do not align strategically for Penske,” the letter to the state says.
The secretary-treasurer of Teamsters Local 332 did not return a message seeking comment on the job cuts Tuesday.
