GLASTONBURY, Conn. (WTNH) – Glastonbury police are investigating numerous thefts from cars in the parking lot at The Edge Fitness on Feb. 1.
Police said car windows were broken and valuables were stolen from within the cars around 11 p.m. Several other police agencies reported similar crimes during the same day and time period.
“This is a very common crime,” said Glastonbury Police Department Lt. Corey Davis. “Over my 20 year career, we’ve had a lot of smash and grab burglaries. Seeing seven at one time in a parking lot is a little unusual.”
Victims came back to smashed windows and their wallets and purses missing. At least a couple hundred dollars were stolen between the seven vehicles.
“We have recovered at least one purse. We are now looking to see if the credit cards have been used and trying to gather surveillance video from where those cards have been used and hopefully that leads to some active leads,” Davis said.
Police believe there were multiple people behind the break-ins and hope to find out more from the surveillance video provided by The Edge Fitness.
Anyone with information is being asked to contact Glastonbury Police at (860) 633-8301.
Residents can expect to see more officers around this gym and others in town. They are being asked to remove valuables from cars or keep them hidden, lock their doors and report any suspicious activity to Glastonbury Police.
