The flights had originally been planned for May 2020, but were pushed back by COVID-19
Dutch flag carrier KLM has announced a launch date for its long-delayed service from Amsterdam to Austin, TX. The airline says the three-times-weekly flights will begin operations on March 28, operating on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
Here’s the schedule:
KLM had originally planned to offer the Amsterdam-Austin route in May 2020, but the launch was delayed by the onset of COVID-19. Originally the airline planned to operate an A330-300 on the flights, but now says that its 787-9 aircraft will service the route.
Last month Virgin Atlantic announced new nonstop service between London Heathrow and Austin would begin in May, with four flights weekly on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
Austin will be KLM’s 19th North American destination. In September 2021, the airline announced it would halt US-bound flights, but reinstated service to its US gateways, after the US government changed its border policies to allow fully vaccinated travelers from the EU and UK to enter the United States.
commenting on the news Jaqueline Yaft, CEO of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS), said:
“After originally welcoming KLM to Austin in 2019, AUS is excited to finally launch nonstop service to Amsterdam. Offering direct service to European cities is a huge priority for AUS and this is a milestone we’ve been eager to meet since May of 2020.”
