Active 55+ apartment community, Harbor Heights, will host local celebrity chef, Roy Breiman, Thursday, February 10, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. for a special Valentine’s Day chocolate tasting event. Chef Roy is well-known in the Puget Sound area for his role as former chef at Salish Lodge and Spa. Here he was pivotal in the lodge being recognized by Conde’ Nast Traveler Readers Choice Awards as the number #2 dining destination in the USA. Bon Appetit magazine also named him one of 13 “Top Hotel Chefs in America.” Breiman sits on the Food Lifeline and the Pellegrini Foundation board of directors.
In addition, Breiman is known for battling and winning a culinary game show against celebrity chef, Bobby Flay, on the episode, “Hook Line and Sinker” of Flay’s popular television show, “Beat Bobby Flay.” Breiman won with his recipe for Dutch baby pancakes featuring caramelized apples, vanilla syrup, fromage blanc, goat cheese, cream cheese, lemon zest, and whipped cream.
Roy serves as Vice President of Food and Beverage at Columbia Hospitality, Harbor Heights’ management group. Prior to joining Columbia, he worked at four and five-star restaurants in San Francisco and New York City as well as Michelin-starred restaurants in France. Breiman is also a member of the James Beard Foundation, and author of the book, “Wine Country Chefs Table.”
In addition to a recipe demonstration by Breiman, residents of Harbor Heights will be treated to samples of gourmet chocolates from downtown Olympia chocolate shop, Bittersweet Chocolates, as well as a seasonal chocolate stout created by Seattle’s Georgetown Brewing Company.
