TECUMSEH — Tecumseh Public Schools is moving ahead with a brand new budget for its communications/marketing department, according to a news release.
On Monday, the Tecumseh school board approved a budget of $30,000 for the communications/marketing department. This budget was part of the budget revision approved by the board. The marketing budget will run through the rest of the 2021-22 school year.
The department had been working without a budget for some time and the board felt it was necessary to approve the funds to help better market the school system to its stakeholders, the release said.
“That’s something (the budget) that has really been talked about from the very beginning of this board being seated, that we needed to market our schools and show why we are an amazing district and people should come here,” Becky Brooks, board member, said in the release.
In November, members of the budget finance committee requested a marketing plan, showing how the funds would be used, if approved. The marketing plan was drafted and recently presented to the committee.
“We have a solid presence on social media and have been able to reach quite a few people when we post district news or good news stories on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, but we want to do more,” Vic Pratt, director of communications for the district, said in the release. “This budget will help my department navigate different ways we can reach out to the public, especially to those who are not on social media.”
The budget revision, including the marketing budget, was approved 7-0 by board members. The funds immediately became available to the communications/marketing department.
