Live breaking news: New system will allow people to report home COVID-19 test results; 'Rules are rules': PM says on Djokovic; Vaccinated man in 20s among NSW deaths with COVID-19 – 9News

Welcome to the 9News.com.au live blog for Thursday, January 6, 2022. Novak Djokovic's visa has been cancelled with his evidence for medical exemption deemed 'insufficient.' A court appeal will be heard at 4pm. A vaccinated man in his 20s is among six NSW deaths with COVID-19, with 34,994 new cases in the state. There were 21,997 cases and six deaths in Victoria. Queensland recorded 10,332 cases – the highest jump yet. South Australia will give out free rapid tests to people who catch the virus, as cases dipped. Authorities are working on a system that would allow people to report positive rapid antigen tests. And the NT is having a 'lockout' for the unvaccinated as cases grow.

Chief Minister Michael Gunner urged people to call the police if "troublemakers" don't follow the new COVID-19 directions.
"I know there are unvaccinated people who can be impolite, I have experienced it," he said.
"If there are troublemakers who try to breach this direction, call the police."
Chief Minister Michael Gunner has also announced a vaccine pass system from midday on Monday.
"A vaccine pass will be necessary for entering high-risk hospitality settings," Mr Gunner said.
The vaccine pass will be needed to enter pubs and clubs, casinos, restaurants, cinemas, ticketed events for over 500 people in urban centres and over 100 in non-urban centres.
Residents will need to use the Territory check-in app and show proof of vaccination to enter these venues.
"Territorians love having a beer with their mates, and the overwhelming majority keep to get doing this," Mr Gunner said.
"We want you to be as safe as possible while having a frothy and a beer."
Chief Minister Michael Gunner has announced a territory-wide lockout for people who are not fully vaccinated from 1pm today.
Unvaccinated people aged 16 and above will only be able to leave their home for three reasons.
"You may only leave home for three reasons: medical treatment including COVID testing and vaccination; essential goods and services like groceries, power tokens medications; to provide care and support to a family member or person who cannot support themselves," Mr Gunner said.
People who aren't fully vaccinated will not be allowed to travel more than 30 kilometres from their home.
For the fully vaccinated, there will be no restrictions other than the mask mandate.
Chief Minister Michael Gunner said there are 23 people in hospital with COVID-19.
There are two people in ICU and one person is on a ventilator.
"Today's escalation in cases is concerning," he said.
Mr Gunner said the majority of cases are in people aged between 20 to 39 and New Years' Eve activities have caused a spike in cases
"Yesterday and today's jumps do reflect activity from Friday and Saturday night and they are reflected in that demographic I mentioned," he said.
