Auburn’s Recreation and Wellness Center is offering several seasonal services that aim to help Auburn students, faculty and staff in meeting a New Year’s resolution to exercise and become more fit.
The center provides fitness, wellness, sports and outdoor recreation opportunities for students, faculty and staff, including such favorite offerings as the annual Polar Plunge and Yoga Rave as well as a new program called AU Burn, which will focus on the fitness components of cardio, strength and recovery. Polar Plunge, an event held each January, allows students to “take a plunge” in the center’s pool and hot tub with coffee, cinnamon rolls and other treats being offered. Yoga Rave focuses on bringing the Auburn community together to celebrate life, community and the practice of yoga.
“Traditionally, early January is the busiest time of year for gyms across the country, and the Recreation and Wellness Center is no exception,” said Director of Facilities and Operations Scott Harper. “Campus Recreation is not just interested in bringing large numbers of people through the doors; we want to provide the resources and encouragement to help everyone develop a lifestyle that includes recreation, fitness and wellness that is maintainable for the rest of their lives.”
The center’s seasonal events serve as tools for members to reach their health and wellness goals and explore all the facility offers to support them in adopting a lifelong pattern of healthy living in 2022 and beyond.  In addition to its spring programs and events, the Recreation and Wellness Center also offers standard programs that are available year-round. These include club sports, group fitness, intramural sports, personal training and more.
“Being able to come to the Recreation and Wellness Center is a great escape from the stress of classes and the perfect way to start off the new year,” said Auburn student and center employee Jack Yohn. “I love having a space where I can push myself physically while also having the opportunity to have fun at work. I encourage everyone to come check out what the Recreation and Wellness Center has to offer.”
All enrolled students are automatically members of the Recreation and Wellness Center, while faculty, staff and retirees may purchase memberships for a base monthly fee of $25 with an option to add a spouse also for $25 monthly and a group fitness class pass and towel service for an additional fee.
Members will have the opportunity to partake in all the center’s amenities, including the one-third-mile indoor track, two 50-foot rock-climbing towers and a wide array of cardio equipment. The center also offers a sand volleyball court, an outdoor track, dozens of tennis courts and more. More membership information can be found here.
The Recreation and Wellness Center is located at 601 Heisman Dr., and a list of upcoming events can be viewed here. To see a calendar that includes specific hours of operations, click here.
