Chasing Gold 🥇: Team USA continues to search for its first gold medal of 2022 Beijing Olympics – USA TODAY

We are almost one week into the Olympics and the excitement is heating up!
American cross-country skier Jessie Diggins won bronze Tuesday in the freestyle sprint, becoming the first U.S. woman to win an individual medal in cross-country. Nathan Chen dazzled in the short program, putting him in position to win gold Thursday.
Wednesday’s action in Beijing includes alpine skiing women’s slalom, women’s snowboard cross quarterfinal, semifinal and finals. Ski jumping, men and women’s short track, curling and lounge will also take place.

O’BRIEN TO RETURN TO US: Nina O’Brien has a compound fracture and will return to the states for treatment. O’Brien had initial surgery at a hospital in Yaunqing, China, after a gruesome crash Monday afternoon in a sec0nd run of the giant slalom.
‘SHOTS DON’T WIN GAMES. GOALS DO.’: The U.S. women’s hockey team almost doubled-up Canada in shot but were doubled-up on the scoreboard, 4-2, in their Beijing Olympics group Game, being reminded that just controlling play isn’t enough vs. Canada.
WINNING RUNS IN THE FAMILY:Cochran-Siegle’s silver medal in super-G comes three days before the 50th anniversary of the day his mother, Barbara Ann Cochran, won gold in slalom.
HISTORY: Skier Jessie Diggins made history at the Winter Olympics in Beijing by becoming the first American woman to win an individual medal in cross-country skiing.
GOING FOR GOLD: Nathan Chen is in position for Olympics gold after majestic short program, writes USA TODAY Sports’ Christine Brennan. Chen scored 113.97 point to take an almost six-point lead heading into the long program.
STILL PROCESSING: U.S. figure skater Vincent Zhou is still dealing with ‘mixed bag of emotions’ after positive COVID test. Zhou told NBC’s “Today” that the positive COVID-19 test  came as a shock because he had been asymptomatic until then.
ITS COMPLICATED: Eileen Gu’s life gets more complicated after winning gold at Olympics for China, writes USA TODAY Sports’ Dan Wolken. After winning gold while representing China, Gu is going to have to learn to live in a new world of cynicism.
