Congressman Horsford Visits Apex Industrial Park to Tout Benefits of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act for Nevada's Fourth District – Steven Horsford

NORTH LAS VEGAS, NEV. — This week, Congressman Steven Horsford (D-NV-04) visited Apex Industrial Park to tout the benefits of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act for water infrastructure development and job creation in Nevada’s Fourth District. He was joined on the tour by City of North Las Vegas Councilwoman Pamela Goynes-Brown.

“With the passage of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, Nevada will receive $403 million over five years to strengthen our water infrastructure and create good-paying jobs across Nevada’s Fourth District,” said Congressman Steven Horsford. “This funding will put North Las Vegas, Clark County, and our whole region on a new trajectory for economic growth and diversification. I’m proud to have voted to secure this investment in Nevada’s future, and I look forward to the opportunities it will bring to my constituents.”

“The City of North Las Vegas has worked to solve the decades-long challenge of bringing water to Apex in order to diversify the economy of not only our city, but the entire region. While we have successfully attracted innovative and international companies to portions of the industrial park, at least four global brands who expressed a desire to locate at Apex selected other states due to the lack of water infrastructure at the locations they were considering. That’s roughly 10,000 long-term, sustainable, good-paying jobs that went somewhere else. We need this funding to fast-track construction efforts, ensuring that we don’t lose out on those opportunities again in the future,” said North Las Vegas City Councilwoman Pamela Goynes-Brown.

“Southern Nevada needs more development-ready land with infrastructure and the Apex area in North Las Vegas is a top option for creating this opportunity. The Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance supports this development and growth at Apex by showcasing this land to companies considering Southern Nevada for expansion. LVGEA is also leading an EDA grant request which includes millions of dollars for water infrastructure at Apex. Our partners, including Congressman Horsford, the Governor’s Office of Economic Development and the City of North Las Vegas have been equally committed to spurring new development at Apex,” said Jared Smith, Interim Chief Executive Officer of the Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance.

Under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, based on the traditional state revolving fund formula, Nevada will expect to receive $403 million over five years to improve water infrastructure across the state. Earlier this month, the Environmental Protection Agency announced the first allotment of this funding for Nevada, with $71,601,000 coming to the state in 2022 to fund upgrades to drinking water, sewer, and stormwater infrastructure. The Apex Industrial Park encompasses 18,000 acres of land, including 7,000 developable acres. In recent years, the City of Las Vegas has invested over $63 million in the Apex project as part of a public/private partnership to bring water and sewer infrastructure to the park. With funding from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, Apex could expand local water infrastructure and create more commercial opportunities in Southern Nevada. If fully funded, proposed water projects at Apex will create thousands of construction jobs and thousands of permanent jobs, strengthening and diversifying the regional economy.
