Kelly Clarkson and ex-husband Brandon Blackstock reach settlement on Montana ranch – USA TODAY
Kelly Clarkson and ex-husband Brandon Blackstock have reached a settlement in the home-ownership battle over their Montana ranch.
According to court documents filed at the Los Angeles County Superior Court Thursday and obtained by USA TODAY, a judge ruled in favor of Clarkson and Blackstock’s property agreement, which gives Blackstock a 5% share of their Warren Peak Ranch property. It was previously ruled that Clarkson got to maintain ownership of the ranch, which is valued at approximately $17.8 million.
“Brandon’s separate property ownership interest in the Warren Peak Ranch is 5.12%,” the documents state. “The parties agree that Brandon’s 5.12% ownership interest in the Warren Peak Ranch is $908,800.”
Additionally, Blackstock has no property ownership interest in the property adjoining the ranch, of which Clarkson retains full ownership, according to the documents. Neither Clarkson nor Blackstock will be testifying on “the fair market value” of the ranch and its adjoining property or their ownerships interests in either property.

Clarkson and Blackstock’s divorce has been marked by legal battles, including a labor dispute over Clarkson’s management fees under Blackstock’s firm as well as a custody battle over their two children, daughter River and son Remington. Clarkson was awarded primary custody of the children in November 2020.
The court cited the couple’s prenuptial agreement in rejecting Blackstock’s earlier petition that the ranch, along with two other properties owned by Clarkson in the state, is marital property.
“The court therefore rejects (Blackstock’s) position that the Montana ranch and other Montana properties are marital property owned 50/50 by the parties,” the documents stated.
Blackstock was reportedly living at the Montana ranch at the time, according to People and Entertainment Tonight.

Clarkson filed for divorce in June 2020 after nearly seven years of marriage to Blackstock, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split. The Montana ranch is not the only real estate owned by the original American Idol: She owns an $8.5 million address in Encino, California. Clarkson also sold a seven-bedroom, nine-and-a-half-bath mansion in Nashville, Tennessee, for $6.3 million last June.
The platinum-selling pop star previously said her unexpected divorce has been difficult to navigate.
“I’ve been talking to friends that have been through a divorce,” Clarkson said during an appearance on the “Today” show in 2020. “I don’t know how people go through that without having some kind of outlet because it is the worst thing ever for everyone involved.”
