Drug and Firearms Squad detectives have charged a third man following raids on two units in Sydney’s south-west targeting the manufacture and supply of illicit drugs.
In August this year, detectives from the State Crime Command’s Drug and Firearms Squad established Strike Force Aphrasia to investigate the manufacture and supply of prohibited drugs across Sydney’s south-west.
Following extensive investigations, strike force detectives, with assistance from South West Metropolitan Region Operations Support Group (OSG), executed a search warrant at a Bankstown unit on Wednesday 1 December 2021.
During the search, police seized more than $3 million cash and steroids.
A short time later, a crime scene warrant was executed at property at Yagoona, where police located a clandestine laboratory containing equipment consistent with the manufacture and supply of prohibited drugs, as well as 2000L of Gamma-Butyrolactone (GBL).
The property was examined and dismantled by officers attached to the Drug and Firearms Squad’s Chemical Operations Team and Fire & Rescue NSW HAZMAT crews.
Two men – aged 43 and 44 – were arrested and charged. They both remain before the courts.
Following further inquiries, detectives executed a search warrant at a home at Maiden Street, Greenacre, about 6.10am today (Tuesday 21 December 2021).
A 37-year-old man was arrested and taken to Bankstown Police Station, where he was charged with take part manufacture prohibited drug (indictable quantity), supply prohibited drug (commercial quantity), participate criminal group contribute criminal activity, and deal with property proceeds of crime (in excess $100,000).
He appeared at Bankstown Local Court today, where he was formally refused bail to re-appear at the same court on Tuesday 15 February 2022.
Inquiries under Strike Force Aphrasia are continuing.
