AUSTIN (KXAN) — A new business is set to take over a portion of the old H-E-B location at William Cannon Drive and First Street in south Austin.
Weitzman, a Texas-based real estate firm that works with retailers, said it helped close a deal with car parts store AutoZone for 33,000-square feet of the 46,000-square foot building in Southridge Plaza. The space will be used for an AutoZone “mega hub” store.
Other businesses in the plaza include Dollar Tree, Papa John’s and Wingstop.
H-E-B announced in 2019 its location at William Cannon and First Street would close in April 2020, however, the company prolonged the store’s closure until after the pandemic subsided.
The grocer is currently in the process of making over its longest-standing store on South Congress. The store is expected to be demolished this month, and a complete rebuild of the location with new and improved amenities will happen over the course of two years.

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (KXAN) — Beto O’Rourke, a Democratic candidate for Texas Governor, continues his “Keeping the Lights On” tour of Texas on Thursday in San Antonio.
O’Rourke stopped Wednesday night in Austin as part of his tour that is scheduled for 12 days and will travel 2,100 miles around Texas to detail his plan to avoid future blackouts and grid failures like the one in February 2021.

Alongside Greg Casar, a Democratic candidate for Texas House District 35 and former Austin City Council member, she’ll host “Rally for Our Rights: The Power of Latino Organizing,” at Mohawk, located at 912 Red River St. Other Latino leaders and advocates will also attend.
AUSTIN (KXAN) — Two ambulances were sent to a southeast Austin wreck Thursday and medics had to cut one of the people involved out of their vehicle, according to Austin-Travis County EMS.
ATCEMS tweeted about a three-vehicle crash near the intersection of Todd Lane and Ben White Boulevard at 10:19 a.m. One of the cars had rolled over and was on its side when first responders arrived, the tweet said.
