Trans Entertainment Guild Hosting First All-Trans Musical at Players Theatre – Playbill.com

The benefit series will feature a staged concert reading of The Civility of Albert Cashier, which tells the story of the real-life transgender Civil War soldier.

As part of its 20-night benefit series, the Trans Entertainment Guild will host staged concert readings of the musical The Civility of Albert Cashier beginning May 5 at 7 PM. 
The event will be among the first showcases with a cast and creative team completely comprised of transgender and gender expansive artists in New York theatre history.
Created as part of a residency with the Players Theatre, each night will feature roundtables, talkbacks, support sessions, and other community events following the reading. Directing the reading and leading the event will be Mika Kauffman, who recently completed a residency at University of Minnesota Duluth for their musical MAXA.
The Civility of Albert Cashier tells the story of Albert D. J. Cashier, a Union soldier during the American Civil War who was assigned female at birth and claimed his gender prior to enlisting. The folk/country musical features music by trans singer/songwriter Coyote Joe Stevens, who has adapted several songs with GLAAD nominee Jay Paul Deratany and Emmy nominee Keaton Wooden. 
Deratany conceived and wrote the book for the show, which features music by Stevens and Wooden as well as lyrics by Steven, Wooden, and Deratany.
Proceeds from the event will go to trans performing artists and partner advocacy organizations. Trans Entertainment Guild is a recently founded arts advocacy group dedicated to improving work conditions for trans and gender expansive professionals in entertainment.

Original cast member Tracey Conyer Lee will be stepping into the role of director and choreographer.
Playwrights will include Jonathan Spector, Vivian J. O. Barnes, Ife Olujobi, and Sharyn Rothstein.
The production is playing a limited engagement at the Linda Gross Theater.
The Off-Broadway play added a week of performances before its opening night February 27.
Based on the life of Tony Valdovinos, the musical made its world premiere at Arizona’s Phoenix Theatre Company.
The Playwrights Horizons’ show will include Nikki Massoud, Marjan Neshat, Roxanna Hope Radja, and more.
The production, from Cork site-specific theatre company Corcadorca, stars siblings Catherine and Eileen Walsh.
The Off-Broadway production starring John Douglas Thompson opened February 15.
The musical comedy is slated to run for a three-week engagement this spring.
Featuring life-sized puppets, the production is directed by its creator, Jonathan Rockefeller.
This exploration of adoption, “re-homing,” and queer parenting comes from Hansol Jung.
Scott Elliott directs and Bill T. Jones choreographs The New Group premiere, starring Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter, Lillias White, Brandon Victor Dixon, and more.
Following a sold-out run at Cherry Lane Theatre, the new comedy will have an encore.
Mari Vial-Golden, Mark Cuddy, and Owais Ahmed will star in the new Off-Broadway play by Gabriel Jason Dean.
Agnes Borinsky’s remix of the Biblical poem will play at El Puente’s Williamsburg Leadership Center.
