An Oakland woman who had stolen items from a massive organized retail theft was arrested Sunday in Walnut Creek after a police officer noticed a vehicle without license plates, police said.
Police also found about $2,000 in stolen merchandise from Broadway Plaza on Nov. 20, when a recent mass smash-and-grab at a Nordstrom involving 80 suspects took place.
Police did not say whether the suspect was involved in the Nordstrom’s incident.
According to a statement from Walnut Creek police, an officer spotted a vehicle without license plates parked near Broadway Plaza. The officer followed up on his suspicions that it may be involved in criminal activity and with the help of other officers arrested the woman.
Authorities returned the merchandise to the retailers, police said.
The arrest came as Lafayette police officers and deputies from the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office have joined extra officers from Walnut Creek in patrolling the area. A three-block stretch of Broadway Plaza also remains closed.
