A Wisconsin-based beef processing company announced plans to build a large new facility in Missouri, and it’s expected to be a major job creator.
Local economic development agencies said Nov. 16 that American Foods Group is eyeing Warren County in east-central Missouri as the location for its new plant.
Pending final approval, AFG expects to settle on a precise location by next spring. The facility is projected to open by the end of 2024.
In a news release, a spokesperson for the Greater Warren County Economic Development Council said the project could result in AFG investing $450 million into the St. Louis area and creating more than 1,300 new jobs. The project is estimated to make an overall economic impact of about $1 billion.
AFG’s website states that the company has over 4,500 employees that process USDA-graded beef in fresh, frozen, and fully prepared formats. It operates eight other processing facilities across seven states. The Green Bay, Wisconsin-based company has five primary divisions: fresh meats, retail, foodservice, international, and school nutrition.
